According to Florida Statute 373.62, any person installing an automatic sprinkler system after May 1, 1991 must install a rain sensor that overrides the system when sufficient rainfall occurs. 

The Winter Haven Water Department offers all residents with inground irrigation systems a free wireless rain sensor. These devices can help conserve water by automatically shutting your irrigation timer off when your area has received a significant amount of rainfall.
