Over the next few weeks, you may notice some “striped” or patchy-looking roads as our crews begin crack-sealing across various neighborhoods in Winter Haven. While the initial look might seem a bit rough, don’t worry—this is just the first step in a two-part process designed to extend the life of our roads and make your drive smoother in the long run.
What is Crack Sealing?
Crack sealing is a preventive maintenance technique where we fill small cracks in the pavement to stop water from getting in. This protects the base of the road from erosion and delays costly repairs like full repaving. It’s a smart, budget-friendly way to maintain road quality and save taxpayer dollars over time.
Why Does It Look "Striped"?
That’s normal! After the cracks are sealed, the surface needs about 30 days to cure. Then, we’ll come back and apply a double micro-surfacing treatment—a final layer that smooths out the road and gives it a fresh, uniform look.
Can I Drive on It?
Yes! Roads are safe to drive on shortly after crack sealing. Just be cautious around the work zones and follow any posted signage to help keep our crews safe.
